PCIe® Timing
Through the years, PCI Express® (PCIe®) protocol has evolved to accommodate the needs of higher speeds, imposing stringent requirements for a reliable clock source. Microchip offer a comprehensive line of PCIe Gen 5 compliant oscillators, clock generators and buffers to address this need. Microchip's timing parts not only meet the PCIe jitter requirements, but also allow allocation of up to 70% of total jitter margin to the rest of the system. With Microchip's highly integrated single-chip solutions, you can reduce component count and board area without sacrificing performance.
5G Timing Solutions
Mobile network architectures have been drastically impacted by the need for higher speeds, higher bandwidth and lower latency in this new era of global connectivity. 5G technology is rapidly emerging to address these needs and to provide reliable, robust and high-quality services to end users around the world. The connectivity, speed and performance unleashed by this leading-edge technology is driving advances in hand-held mobile devices, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart homes and an array of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
These next-generation 5G networks require highly accurate synchronization to enable end-to-end nodes to meet the extremely tight time accuracy requirement of ±130 ns. While 4G networks relied on GPS receivers at every cell site to act as time sources, 5G networks use the IEEE® 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) as the primary method to synchronize time across devices. Microchip's portfolio of synchronization products has the performance and features you need for implementing accurate time performance in your leading-edge 5G designs.
Oscillators
Our multiple-output and highly flexible quartz- and MEMS-based PureSilicon™ oscillators are available in a variety of industry-standard footprints to meet the requirements of your low-power or low-jitter applications. Use Microchip's Clockworks® Configurator and Sampling Tool to easily customize your oscillator to any combination of frequency, temperature, ppm and package size to suit the requirements of your application and then order samples from within the tool. You can also use Microchip's TimeFlash tool to customize and configure Microchip's MEMS oscillators.
Clock Generation
Quickly solve your timing challenges with Microchip's highly configurable and easy-to-use family of clock generators. Microchip offer multi-output, feature-rich clock generators with optional integrated clock sources for low-power and low-jitter applications.
Buffers
We offer one of the most extensive arrays of clock buffers in the industry. Ranging from 2 to 22 outputs, they support differential (LVPECL, LVDS, HCSL, CML) and single-ended CMOS outputs and have a maximum clock rate of 7.0 GHz and data rate of 10.7 Gbps, with very low additive jitter. Microchip's clock buffer family consists of TCXO fanout buffers, crystal or reference input fanout buffers, zero-delay buffers and PCIe® buffers.
SyncE and IEEE® 1588
We offer the industry's broadest timing portfolio focused on synchronization of packet networks. This portfolio includes ITU-T/IEEE® standards-compliant Digital Phase Locked Loops (DPLLs) for network synchronization that offer the performance necessary to meet stringent 10G/40G/100G interface requirements for Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEE 1588 based applications, including the latest 5G networks, smart grids and automotive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Jitter Attenuation and Frequency Conversion
Our jitter attenuation and frequency conversion products lower your bill of material costs, reduce board space requirements and simplify design complexity by replacing multiple components—including oscillators and discrete PLLs—that are typically required for implementing jitter attenuation and frequency conversion in high-speed networking and OTN applications.
Clock and Data Distribution
We offer one of the most extensive arrays of clock distribution product lines in the industry including drivers and receivers, dividers, logic translators, multiplexers, crosspoint switches, backplane and cable buffers and equalizers, delay lines for skew management, and flip-flops and logic gates. These devices support differential (LVPECL, LVDS, HCSL, CML) and single-ended CMOS outputs, and offer a maximum clock rate of 7.0 GHz and data rate of 10.7 Gbps. These products can be designed into a wide variety of applications including high-speed networking, communications, industrial, medical and military systems.
Real-Time Clocks
Feature-Rich, Low-Cost Timekeeping Solutions
A Real-Time Clock/Calendar (RTCC) maintains accurate time in an embedded system even when the main power is turned off. Microchip's RTCCs range from basic low-cost devices to highly integrated mid-range devices with either an I2C or SPI interface and include additional nonvolatile memory and a combination of features that are very useful when operating within a single battery-backed clock device. These cost-effective solutions offer more features and higher performance than many competitive devices and will meet the specific requirements of your application.
Atomic Clocks and Oscillators
For applications requiring the highest degree of free-running frequency and timing accuracy, Microchip provide a broad portfolio of both laboratory-grade system atomic clocks and small PCB-mountable atomic oscillators based on atomic resonance techniques. Microchip's sophisticated frequency and timing solutions can be used in a variety of applications, from secure network timing to autonomous atomic clock systems.
